  tpstar: <millert> Yes, 34 ... Bxe2 is much better, and your line with 35. Rd2 Rc2 is decisive, forcing 36. Rxd3 Bxd3 37. Bxd3 to prevent Black from Queening. Best play is probably 34 ... Bxe2 35. Rxd3 Bxd3 36. Bxd3 Rc3 37. Bb5 Ra3 38. Bc6 d4 with an easy win. Black might have missed 35 ... Rc2 in time pressure, especially while minding that weak back rank, but it's such a shame to ruin a won endgame.

After 34 ... dxe2 35. Re1 then 35 ... Bf3 looks cute but doesn't work at all due to 36. Bxe2 Re8 37. Kf1 and Black can't trade down because Black's King is outside the Square for the Pa4. Black seems to have missed 36. Kg2 intending 37. f3 cutting off protection for the Pe2. After the trades, material is even but White is superior in King position and Rook activity plus owning the OPP, converting it with ease. Quite a turnaround.

34....dxe2 dives only draw. Typical example of wrong capturing.
