Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-14-07  Maynard5: This is a highly creditable win by Sir George Thomas against an opponent as formidable as Max Euwe. Around move 15, White's position would appear to be stronger. White's best play here would be 15. Bd3, followed by 0-0, and eventually e4, opening the position, before Black has time to complete his development. Instead, White loses critical time advancing the a-pawn, while Black's 15. ... Rc7 actually posts the rook on a square where it can swing to the kingside to support the coming attack (20. ... f5 and 21. ... Rf7). By move 24, Black's rooks are fully in play, and his pawn storm on the kingside is surprisingly powerful.
