Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-09-04  ughaibu: Uhlmann's only win against Geller and quite a nice game.
Jan-18-05  kostich in time: Gligoric had a "game of the month in Chess life and Review devoted to this game..it is a very, very good game.
Dec-09-05  cdupree: Does someone have a legal version of this score? Quite obviously, 7. ...Ne7 is illegal.
Jan-02-06  aw1988: You're allowed to write "Ne7" because the other one cannot move and it is assumed it's Nge7.
Apr-20-06  notyetagm: What a great combination by Uhlmann, 23 ... ♖xb6! 24 axb6 ♗c5 25 ♖e2 ♖xf2! 26 ♖xf2 e3, combining the tactical themes of <pressure against f7/f2>, <exchanging on the pinning square>, <discovered attack>, and <pawn forks>.
Mar-29-08  Whitehat1963: Truly a gem from the Player of the Day!
Nov-18-08  whiteshark: Q: Will you find this game in Uhlmann's French book ?

Open Defence: Yes! on page 36 running till 39

great book!

Nov-18-08  whiteshark: Thanks for that quick response <OD>! :D
Mar-29-14  thegoodanarchist: Uhlmann's second time around being POTD (at least)
Dec-05-24  mel gibson: I saw that ply but I thought it wouldn't work and then didn't know what to play - maybe 23. .. Bh2+ but SF calls that a draw.

Stockfish 17 says:

23. .. Rxb6

(23. .. Rxb6 (1. ... Rxb6 2.axb6 Bc5 3.Re2 e3 4.cxd5 exf2+ 5.Kh1 Nf5 6.Rc3 Bb4 7.Rxf2 Ng3+ 8.Rxg3 Rxf2 9.Ne4 Rf4 10.Re3 Qe5 11.Bd3 Qxd5 12.Qe2 Qf7 13.Rg3 Bc6 14.Rg4 Rf5 ) +2.50/44 314)

score for Black +2.50 depth 44.

Dec-05-24  Cecco: It must be a particularly tricky position if two contenders of this caliber, after 23. ... Rxb6 24. axb6 Bc5 25. Re2, make one mistake after another (according to this engine). Of particular note, for black, 29. ... Bxb6 (0.00), instead of Qf4 (-9.02) and for white 31. Bxd3 (-0.98), instead of the simple 31. Nxf2 (0.00).
Dec-05-24  vajeer: Bc5 and Rxf2 are the only ideas to explore. Both need Rxb6 first, so that was easy to decide upon. 23...Rxb6 24. axb6. Now 24...Rxf2 immediately looks tempting. The problem is, white doesn't have to accept the rook and can play 25. cxd5 preventing Bc5 later. So, Black has to play 24...Bc5. At that point I wasn't sure how much of an advantage Black has got for the exchange sacrifice. The score from Mel's SF analysis is +2.5 in favor of Black, but I guess it is a bit difficult to judge for human mind?

  chrisowen: Orange deep b6 no?
Dec-05-24  King.Arthur.Brazil: The king thought about the line: 23...Rxb6 24. axb6 Bh2+ 25. Kh1 Rxf2 followed by 26. Qf4 or Bg3... I don't feel quite sure about an winning line. I got a flu today.
