  Chessical: <17...Nf6> would have left Black with only a slight inferiority.

Instead, Atkins is left to defend a cramped and lifeless game. Ironically, this was probably the least congenial type of position for Janowski's combinational taste.

Janowski would have won with the zugzwang move <56. Ra7!>

It's hard to get a handle on his style. Lasker's sly dig that Janowski was particularly good at slow openings wasn't altogether off.
