perfidious: This fortunate victory capped a 5.5/6 start for Ljubojevic; alas, he was only to win one more game in eleven rounds, against five losses, thus finishing hopelessly out of contention.

Mateo: Ljubojevic reminds me of Tal. The same bluffing style. Here, he was completely lost. 36.bxc6?? was losing after 36...Nxa1 instead of 36...Qxe3+??. I guess Hort was in huge zeitnot. Anyway, 43.Rb7! was a nice way to finish the game. 43...Rxb7 44.cxb7+ Kxb7 45.Ke5.

Plaskett: Sad that after a 5.5/6 start Lyubo could not qualify.

perfidious: As Larsen had also not come close to making the Candidates after beginning 5.5/6 at Leningrad, weeks before, though in Larsen's case, the single half-point he conceded in those early rounds saw him blowing a winning rook ending vs Torre.
