Jan-09-05  Benzol: Hort has the better of this ending but Smyslov saves what appears to be a lost position. Bravo!

  beatgiant: White looks winning with the more active king after 40. Kf5 Ke7 41. Kg6 Kf8 42. f5 b5 43. f6 gxf6 44. Kxf6, for example 44...b4 45. cxb4 cxb4 46. c5 a5 47. Ke5 a4 48. Kd4 gets back in time to pick up the queenside.
Feb-13-11  Willace88: Black may still be able to hold the draw by refraining from commiting to b5, which allows Kd5 after the pawn trade on b5: on 40. Kf5 K37 41. Kg6 Kf8 42. f5, now Black should try ... a5!, similar to Smyslov's line in the game: 43. f6 gxf6 44. Kxf6 a4! 45. Ke5 Ke7. Here, g4 and h4 both draw, but 46. h3! prevents blacks king from penetrating when White's goes to the queenside, and still offers winning chances.
