Breunor: We can’t say Yates resigned prematurely.
Oct-18-23  Retireborn: With 10...f5 Mattison attempts to improve on the 10...0-0 played by Menchik against Yates in the first round. In more recent games 10...f6 is the favoured continuation.

23.f5! gives White some advantage.

31.a4? is the losing move; with 31.Rg8+ White can still draw after 31...Kc7 32.Rxb8 Nxb8 33.Qb4 Qe3+ 34.Kg2! (not 34.Kf1 Bb5!) Bb5 35.a4 Nxa4 36.Qe7+.

HeMateMe: The puns seems quite cryptic, too deep for lesser minds like mine...

FSR: "Mmm!"? I don't get it.
Oct-18-23  syracrophy: First, time I saw the Black ♔ walking out of stage, starting from c6, and going downstairs, I thought "There should be a study-like finish somewhere!"

Second time I watched the line, everything seemed OK for Black! A picnic walk by the King.

Will have to verify a third time on the board 🧠🐦

Hmm. Try saying Mattison without saying Mmm.

HeMateMe: I love your posts Ramp, but this is a dreadful pun.

I made the connection with the ad campaign without this clue but I'm not sure how universal the campaign was. I certainly enjoyed the pun though.

Oct-18-23  thegoodanarchist: I watched the video that <goodevans> linked to.

Try saying "Mattison" without thinking of ox tongue. Mmm.

FSR: <Mattessons is a United Kingdom-based manufacturer of processed-meat products, particularly sausages and pâté. The company became famous in the 1970s for its "Mmmm" television adverts, with the strap line "Just try saying Mattessons without saying Mmm."> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matte...

I live in the U.S., so I wasn't familiar with Mattesons or its advertisements.

NM JRousselle: The silicon beast does not like 19... fg. It says White should reply with 20 Ng5!

I don't think I would have found all the correct moves for White, but White had a winning position after 19 ...fg.
