Aug-30-05  olav dalkeith: Why did black resign here? Would white's continuation be c7 with idea of Rd8 or Bc6 winning material? Or am I just blind?

  keypusher: Your continuation looks right to me -- 43...♔h7 44 c7 ♗d7 45 ♗d5 and I don't see any defense. If 43...♔g8 44 c7 ♗d7 45 ♗d5 threatens ♕xg6+.
Oct-17-14  tranquilsimplicity: Highly instructive Karpovian serpentine stifling of the opponent.#
Sep-01-18  gars: In his book "For friends and Colleagues" Dvoretsky mentions a game in which Steinberg had a superior position aganist V. Arbakov, who sacrificed his Queen and won. Would anyone please publish this game here? Thanks a lot.
Dec-31-20  Kiwiknight: The magic of a strong center to lead the game.
May-21-21  Ulhumbrus: After 9 Be3 in the game Keres vs Fischer, 1962 with a similar pawn formation in the centre but not on the queen side Fischer played ...exf4 and in reply to gxf4, ...d5.

I think White would reply 9...exf4 <10. Bxf4> and White's pieces are more active. In case Black now tries 10...d5, it looks to me like a typical slight first-move advantage for White.

Chessical: Black resigns as he has run out of moves,

Black's King is fatally vulnerable and he has no constructive options:

If <43...Kh7> then <44. f5!!> wins, as no matter how Black takes after <45 Rd4> he is mated.

If <43...Kh8> then <44. Be4!!> wins as Black has no useful moves to defend against <44. Bxg6!>
