Oct-02-04  Shadout Mapes: uhmm, i think chessgames.com deleted the posts
Oct-02-04  aw1988: That's more likely.
Jun-26-09  Knight13: The final position is not over yet! There's still plenty of room for screw-ups, especially at club levels.
Mar-03-11  oshkar72: That was the first time the Gary Gambit was played. Karpov got surprised and prefered go to draw

Joshka: Allright, I presumed this was the 2nd time they played this variation, cause the 1st time Karpov played 11. Be2 and lost. Thinking his 11. Bc4 is an improvement? So what do the top engines say? Is Garry's 8...d5 a sound Gambit? thanks in advance!

perfidious: No idea what the engines have to say, but here is a game where Black managed to grovel a draw despite being clearly worse: Karpov vs Van der Wiel, 1986.
Sep-18-17  RookFile: Karpov had a terrific sense of danger. Kasparov surprises him with a novelty, and Karpov wisely steers the game to a draw. I guess that makes the next one with this opening, which Kasparov won, all the more inpressive for Kasparov. Karpov had time to prepare and still lost.
Jan-18-18  coolthing76: <Joshka> Actually that's the 1st time this variation is played. The 2nd time is the won Kasparov won in Game 16 of this match.
