perfidious: How did a player such as Hamilton come to face Kasparov? Many average GMs never had that privilege.

This looks more like a Symmetrical English to me than a KID; circa 1981, I had the position after White's tenth via the move order 1.c4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.g3 g6 4.Bg2 Bg7 5.Nf3 Nf6 6.0-0 0-0 7.d4 cxd4 8.Nxd4 Nxd4 9.Qxd4 d6 10.Qd3.

Oct-07-14  ljfyffe: The Symmetrical can transform into the King's Indian Yugoslav: 1d4 Nf6 2c4 g6 3g3 Bg7 4Bg2 0-0 5Nc3 d6 6Nf3 c5 70-0 Nc6.
