Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-09-12  HenryAdams1838: What does 10...Qc8 do? I may have to play this again the next time someone denies me the Open Spanish.
Sep-09-12  micartouse: <What does 10...Qc8 do?> I don't really know, but my guess is that Black completely rules out g4, and lets his knight maneuver through d8. But instead of playing ...Qd7, he decides to keep a line piece on the back rank in case white plays a4 and axb5. This way he doesn't have to commit to castling yet.
Dec-20-23  Stolzenberg: Instead of the strange <10. ... Qc8>, Black usually continues with 10. ... 0-0 here. He does not need to be afraid of 11. g4.

However after <10. ... Qc8> Keres suddenly started to play some unusual moves too, beginning with <11. Bg5> instead of 11. a4 or 11. Nbd2, followed by <12. Bd1>. The right square for this bishop is c2.
