Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-11-11  whiteshark: Quickiest loss in the Grünfeld by VK.
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...
Aug-23-13  csmath: Korchnoi's attempt at creative play with

13. ...e5? and 14. ...Nd4

assuming that he would get some countergame against king stuck on the first rank is easily solved by Polugaevsky with natural moves

18. Ke2 and 19. f3

After seeing that he simply lost a pawn and is heading for a defeat mighty Victor burned the bridges completely with

20. ...Qxa2?!, 21. ... Qxg2?!, and 22. ...f5?

The game play by VK is original and has some value for the opening theory but the moves by white are very natural to come by.

Aug-23-13  csmath: Modern analysis confirms that the proper play against 13. h4 should be 13. ... h5 as shown by Valeriy Neverov in this game:

M Marin vs V Neverov, 1993

The opening (13. h4) still has the value of surprise.

However, if black wants to play on a win in this sideline (10.Rc1) then the proper response should be

12. ...Qa3
[instead of "Svidler-like" 12. ...Bd7 that leads only to a draw].

Feb-20-20  areknames: By this crushing victory in the penultimate round Polu was virtually guaranteed unshared 1st in the category 13 first edition of Sweden Chess Tournament in Haninge. According to Schacknytt 1988/5 10.Rc1! was a TN that Polu had had up his sleeve for a year and obviously it caught Korchnoi by surprise.
