Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-10-03  Blumster: Gotta love how by turn thirty five Benko's got all his pawns on the opp. color square as his bishop, and Lili's exact opposite, there is no doubt Benko is a master of the endgame.
Mar-28-04  ruylopez900: What's wrong with 35...Rxa2 for Black? It seems to win a pawn.
Mar-28-04  TrueFiendish: He must have been afraid of 36.b6, undermining the whole queenside.
Apr-22-05  YouRang: Was 67... Rxg5+ really the best move for black? Throwing away the rook looks like an instant loss to me.

How about Rg6?

Apr-22-05  lopium: Yes, quite better, i guess black would have won!
Jul-21-05  aw1988: No, after 35...Rxa2 there follows not 36. b6 but Rc1.
Jul-21-05  aw1988: Rxg5+ was probably the best move.
Jun-06-06  Sporka Child: <YouRang> How about Rg6?

57...Rg6? is exactly that a "?". After Ra3+ the white pawn base is protected, and the white King can happily occupy f5 with time on the rook. I hope one can see the win from there.

Nov-15-06  Microbe: Absolutely captivating endgame. It's hypnotic! Lovely.
Nov-15-06  euripides: I see this game was played by a <Benko Pal>. It must be nice to get a sidekick to play your tournament games for you.
Nov-15-06  miles42: Note for euripides -- please contact me at momentpoint@suscom.net. I am doing research for a book and would like to know the origin of a quote you cited earlier. (To other posters: I apologize for using this method, but I have found no other means to contact euripides.) -- Miles
