IMlday: Petrosian's last game. O Sabitov vs Petrosian, 1983 <chessgames> He died in 1984 so the 1995 game in his file must be another Petrosian.

Games like this one show why Russians call this defence a scorpion rather than a hippo?

Mar-23-10  thegoodanarchist: Maybe the 1995 game is Tigran L Petrosian
Nov-17-11  birthtimes: Notice here how Petrosian overprotects the e5 square with 4 pieces after just 10 moves! Then look at his game with Unzicker in 1962 when Petrosian again plays the Modern Defense as Black and there overprotects the d5 square with 5 of his pieces! So deep are his lessons...
Jan-19-12  parisattack: Another 'Half-Hippo' similar to the Unzicker game. Petrosian played a couple more of these those not yet in the CG.com database.

Still much to explore in the Robatsch variations...

Jan-19-12  Petrosianic: Wait a minute, I thought this was Petrosian's last game:

Ulf Andersson vs Petrosian, 1983

I've never seen this game before, and it doesn't have any event name listed. What event was it from?

Jan-19-12  parisattack: Spartakiada, Moscow 1983 is the cite I have for it.
Jan-19-12  TheFocus: Right. The <t> stands for team event.

8th USSR Peoples Spartakiada (2nd board) +2=7-0
