Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-31-11  Elrathia Kingi: An amusing finish. White trades down to leave the Black king in a helpless position in the corner, with nothing to stop Rh1 and Rxh6.
Aug-31-11  Strongest Force: If you are a unknown but world-class blitz player, you can make lots of money from Kamran.

perfidious: <Strongest Force> Kamran's decent but not that strong-I've beaten better in blitz-and I was never more than ~2400 about twenty years ago.

At a guess, time trouble played a role in the finish of this game; the forcing sequence which yields a White a clear advantage is long but not terribly difficult to foresee.

By the way, do you know what happened to Matera? He was the first titled player I ever faced, only a few months before this game, and he was strong enough to play at least one US championship, but after getting squashed by him in Hartford 1978, I never saw him again.

Sep-03-11  Strongest Force: Mr P, you could be right about Kamran. Matera lived at 107th and Riverside...I spent lots of time in Sal's building because that also is where future poker millionaire Ylon lived. It was a rich chess area with Zuckerman, Sherwin, Lyman and many others living around there.
Sep-03-11  Strongest Force: Matera's good buddy was Norman Weinstein who probably got Sal into trading.
Sep-03-11  Strongest Force: I should explain why I said a person should be world-class to get rich from playing Kamran blitz. The problem would be that once Kamran starts losing he will ask for greater and greater time and money odds. How many folks can give Kamran.5-1 time odds? God knows what the money odds could be.

perfidious: <Strongest Force> Shirazi sounds like my kind of poker opponent-get him on a losing streak and he'll go for a big number.

Dzindhzi used to offer money odds-wonder what he'd have offered Shirazi.

Had an old friend who lived at 101st and Riverside during the 1990s till they took off the rent control, which instantly doubled the rent.

Used to see Ylon Schwartz in events from time to time-about 2350 back then, though we never played.
