sleepyirv: According to Shirov, he analyzed this opening a few weeks before after losing to Judit Polgar (Judit Polgar vs Shirov, 1995). When he decided to play it against Stefansson, he had completely forgotten Stefansson was actually involved in that analysis and only remembered a few moves into this game.

One wonders what Stefansson made of the decision at the time, when he resigned, and when he learned Shirov's "reasoning!"
