Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-13-04  drukenknight: "Hey Stein the g pawn is pinned do you know that?" Only game where Spassky beats Stein, I think.
Feb-13-04  drukenknight: actually its the first time he wins, he wins again in 1971 but that game doesnt seem as good.
Mar-11-09  Brown: <drukenknight> I think you are long gone from this site, but Stein is in a tight spot by move 23.

If 23.g3 Qc6 and black is still winning.

23.f3 is actually an ingenious defense, allowing lateral protection of g2 by the queen.

Dec-10-10  Captain Hindsight: Better would have been 14.Qc2=.

offramp: Spassky liked this opening so much he decided to become French.
Mar-27-20  ewan14: IIRC Boris played the French Winawer against Geller in their candidates match

perfidious: Spassky played the French all four games in their '68 match: two Winawers and twice, Geller plumped for the Tarrasch.
