Apr-01-25  BxChess: I think that this Tuesday puzzle was meant to be 19...? Black to move.
Apr-01-25  actinia: white to move and lose. very easy. eval from the position with white to move is -5
Apr-01-25  King.Arthur.Brazil: If 19. Bxf3 Nh3 with 2 mates threatened. On 19. exf3 Qxd4 20. Qxd4 Rxd4 21. Kxf2 Nd3+ 22. Ke3 Nxe1 23. Kxd4 Nxg2 with an extra ♖. Trying to protect the Rd4... 19. Rxd8+ Rxd8 20. exf3 Qxe1+ 21. Kxe1 Nfd3+ 22. Ke2 Nxb4 also with an extra ♖. The lower losing material is: 19. Rxd8+ Rxd8 20. Qh4 Bxg2+ 21. Kxg2 f6 and B has an extra ♘ as in the beginning of POTD. B will easily play N7e5 followed by Rd2 with an dominant position.
Apr-01-25  Walter Glattke: The option was 19.Rxd8+ Rxd8 20.exf3 Qxe1+ 21.Kxe1 Nfd3+ wins a rook

little ernie: As 19 ...Black to move, the d4 rook is overloaded.
Apr-01-25  mel gibson: April fools' day - White to move and lose. LOL.

April Fools' Day is an annual custom on 1 April consisting of practical jokes and hoaxes.

Stockfish 17 says:

19. Rxd8+

(19. Rxd8+ (1.Rxd8+ Rxd8 2.Bxf3 Nfd3 3.Nd1 Qxf3+ 4.exf3 Nxb4 5.Ne3 Nc6 6.f4 Re8 7.Re2 Kf8 8.Nd5 Rd8 9.Ne3 h5 10.Nc4 Rd1+ 11.Kg2 g6 12.Ne3 Rd7 13.Nc4 Rd3 14.Re1 Rd8 ) -5.29/42 301)

score for White -5.29 depth 42.

  Teyss: <scormus> Eh oui.

Fun but CG could have selected something even more April Foolesque, for instance Deep Fritz vs Kramnik, 2006, White to play:

Or today's GOTD: 3.White to play. Niemann vs Kramnik, 2023

perfidious: <Teyss>, or perhaps the following bit of light entertainment:

Keene vs D Anderton, 1977

Apr-01-25  saturn2: Black has the threat R(Q)xd4. I looked at Nd5, Exf3 exf3 Rxd8 but nothing gets white the piece back.

Apr-01-25  TheaN: Oh crap I took this one seriously :)... assuming it's intentional (or CG messed up the side to move), the practical line I looked at was <19.Rxd8+ Rxd8 20.exf3> but this fails on the relatively simple <20....Qxe1+ -+>... that I missed. I actually thought Black has to be careful and needed to play 20....Qd3+?! after which White has to avoid the fork with 21.Re2=. April Fool indeed.
