Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-12-06  ClubplayerGOLD: If anything, but 14...Qc8 the queen is lost by 15.Nde6!

If 14...b6 15.Nde6!, Bxe6(forced) 16.Nxe6+, Kf7 and 17.Qf5+, now black has a bunch of options, but all of them either lose the queen or mate. I know that after 16...Kf7, Nxd8+ would win, but all the variations win. At least after 16...Kf7 17.Qf5+ you allow your opponent to walk into the stupid 17...Ke8?? so that you can go get a coffee break before the next round in your tournment:)

Don't mind me:) I'm bored and just wanted to calculate something. Anything!

Sep-18-09  technical draw: Great game. Reminds me of user: I Sacrifice like Tal
Sep-18-09  WhiteRook48: 24...Be6...
Mar-04-25  Zugzwangovich: <ClubplayerGOLD>said, 14...Qc8 the queen is lost by 15.Nde6!

Huh? I can see that if the queen stays on d8 she does indeed get eaten alive after 15.Nde6 (or 15.Nce6), but doesn't 14...Qc8 avert the threat? Isn't that the reason Russell made the move?

Mar-04-25  FM David H. Levin: <<Zugzwangovich>: <ClubplayerGOLD>said, 14...Qc8 the queen is lost by 15.Nde6!>

I surmise that the intent was, "If anything but 14...Qc8, the queen is lost by 15.Nde6!"

Mar-05-25  Zugzwangovich: <FM David H. Levin>Thanks for pointing that out. The comma after "anything" just completely threw me!
Mar-05-25  FM David H. Levin: Hi, <Zugzwangovich>. Are you familiar with <Eats, Shoots & Leaves> by Lynne Truss? I find it a remarkably entertaining book on grammar.
Mar-07-25  Zugzwangovich: <FM David H. Levin>I'm not familiar with the book but recognize the punch line from a joke about a hungry, gun-toting koala. The book sounds like one I'd like to read but chances of finding it here in Japan are not good.
