Feb-02-04  Shadout Mapes: Looking over this game again, and I can't help but be completely astounded at the position after 21.Bf5!! Tal is down a queen for a knight, but he makes that move, hanging ALL THREE of his minor pieces! It's a position that deserves to be framed.
Feb-03-04  ughaibu: I think an interesting feature of this game is that all the gyrating complications result eventually in an endgame in which Tal is intially down on material yet is able to win due to positional factors. A game with pretty much everything in it.

tamar: It is a modern Evergreen Game, with even a similar raking use of the bishops. To get this position from the stolid Nimzo-Queens Indian on move 12 is the work of a sorcerer.
Mar-03-04  731: Tal is not human.
Apr-23-04  refutor: any comments on 19. ... O-O?
Jan-09-05  lopium: Nice Queen sacrifice from Tal.
Jan-09-05  ughaibu: An expert in the art of understatement what.

  beatgiant: <refutor: any comments on 19. ... O-O?> 19...0-0 20. Qa3 Nxh4 21. fxg7 Kxg7 22. Na5 looks good.
Jun-30-05  iron maiden: <Sneaky> Here's another to consider for the collection.
Jul-17-05  bomb the bishop: Has this been a game of the day? because it deserves to be
Jul-16-06  whatthefat: This could well be my favourite Tal game. Besides all the brilliance of the middlegame, and the technical class shown in the endgame, I particularly enjoy the subtle 24.Bc4! The piece is salvaged, and white has emerged from the chaos with a winning endgame. It's amazing when one thinks about it, how much mental effort went into ultimately weakening black's pawn structure.
Aug-31-06  notyetagm: 21 ♗f5!!
Aug-31-06  shintaro go: It seems that Tal had the entire situation under control. Amazing how Tal equalized after move 26 with a series of sacrifices and eventually arrived at a Queening pawn. Breathtaking stuff
Nov-02-06  Archives: Best Tal game ever!
Nov-12-06  Archives: Game of the day!

My favourite Tal game =)

Nov-12-06  Confuse: amazing how after all the smoke settles tal is up a pawn, as if he knew that the best his opponent could do would lead to just that. cool.
Nov-12-06  sfm: Tal as we remember him. 18.e5!! I'll always wonder how far he could really see and how much much was gut feeling.
Nov-12-06  uuft: Stunning stuff!
Nov-12-06  Microbe: Wow. I'd never seen this game until today and I was just blown away. Incredible!
Nov-12-06  dehanne: Why not Qxf5? Does 22.Nd6+ lead anywhere for white? I can only see black winning the g7 pawn after exchanging the bishop on h4 for the knight.
Nov-12-06  something1234: this game may well have been a tal composed by tal, but its still very nice.
Nov-12-06  Calli: Maybe giving Tal's rook the b-file was an error. How about something like 26...Rb8 27.Rad1+ Kc7 28.Rd2 f6 29.Kf2 Ng6 30.Rfd1 Nf8 What do you think?
Nov-12-06  avidfan: Are there records of times taken between moves for Tal's games when complicated variations are involved?

21...Qxc4 was of no use since 22.Rfe1+

whereas

21...Qxf5 allows 22.Nd6+ forking the royals and regaining a queen while defending the loose B/h4.

Nov-12-06  Maatalkko: <something1234> Composed, are you kidding? He got his opponent to play out a composed game during the Varna Olympiad?

LOL, I was going to say something to that post, but figured that he was joking about this being composed
