Nov-13-06 | | kevin86: "Walking Tal?" Heck,if he had had batting talents equal to his chess talents-I would have walked him a lot! lol A great sac game-well worthy of a Morphy or Anderssen! |
|
Jan-03-07 | | Archives: So at move 35 is this game a theoretical draw or does White actually have a winning advantage since Black has the doubled pawns? Can someone please throw it into a chess engine for me? Cheers! |
|
Jan-03-07 | | Archives: My thinking says it is a draw after
35. ... f5
36. Rxa4 fxg4
37. Ra6+ Kc5
38. Ree6 Kc4
39. Rac6+ Kb5
40. Rxh6 gxf3
41. Kxf3 Rg2
42. h4 Rxa2
43. Rc7 a5
44. Rd6 Rf8+
45. Ke3 Rf5
46. Rb7+ Kc5
47. Ra6

Jan-06-07 | | mcgee: >>Maybe giving Tal's rook the b-file was an error. How about something like 26...Rb8 27.Rad1+ Kc7 28.Rd2 f6 29.Kf2 Ng6 30.Rfd1 Nf8 What do you think?<< 26..Rb8 27 Kh1 followed by 28 Rfd1+ and White is still in the driving seat as he will either take control of the b-file himself or bring the bishop to c2 via d3. Alternatives for Black such as 27 Kh1 Ng6/f5 28 Rfd1+ Ke6 29 Bc4+ do not look pleasant from where I am sitting :) 26..Nf5 is a better practical chance I think |
|
Feb-21-07 | | nsppp: After 21.Bf5 the most incredible thing is that white had only bishop for the queen and all three minor pieces can be taken. For all that white is winning in all variations. If 21...Qxf5 22.Nd6+ Kd7 23.Nxf5 Nxf4 24.Rad1+ Kc7. 25.Nxf4 Rxg7
26.Rfe1 and despite of pawn up black's position is completely hopeless.If 21.Qxc4 22.Rfe1+ Qe6 23.Rxe6+ fe 24.Bxg6+ Kd7.25.Rd1+ Kc7 26.Bg3+ Kb6 27.Rb1+ Ka6 28.Bd3+ Ka5 29.Bc7x
Hecht had chosen the third possibility 21.Nxh4
|
|
Feb-21-07 | | nsppp: Maybe 25...Kxd6 is a mistake for black.Black has to exchange the active white bishop(25...Bxc4)and that's probably the best chance to survive.
Also after 25...Kxd6 26.Bxa6 26...Nf5 is a mistake. The only chance is to play 26...Rb8 and take control of the b-file. |

I'm yet to check it with an engine, but in response to 35...f5, I'd probably prefer 36.h3, maintaining a structural edge. |

Feb-22-07 | | whatthefat: <Archives>
I set Fritz on the position after 35...f5 36.h3 h5 37.Kg3 hxg4 38.fxg4 fxg4 39.Rxg4 click for larger viewand at 18 ply it recommends 39...a6, assessing the position as +0.18. White should certainly stand a little better due to the passed pawn and Black's doubled pawns, but I'm not sure whether it's enough. Possibly 39.hxg4 would be stronger, avoiding the drawish RP. None of the books I have featuring this game give much analysis after the minor pieces are traded. |

Jun-24-07 | | whiteshark: Tal's imagination seems leagues beyond that of practically any other chess player. But HaJo Hecht was not without his resources here, e.g. <19... 0-0 20. Rae1 Qxe1! 21. Rxe1 bxa4 22. Lxg6 fxg6 23. Re7 g5!> instead of 19... bxa4? |

Nov-09-07 | | efrain chavez: Thank you whiteshark for the picture! As for the game; I would die happy if I were ever able to find over the board a combination like the one started with e5 and crowned by Bf5... |
|
Apr-07-08 | | chesskelvin: This game is amazing in the sense that Tal's sacrifices were made to cripple Hecht's pawns |
|
May-16-08 | | newzild: Tal is God. |
|
|
Aug-31-08 | | TheaN: No offense <castelao2>, but the leading language on cg.com is English. Although not against their rules, posting in other languages makes most of what you describe not understandable for people whom do not speak that language. When I quote or write something in Dutch, I always give a translation with it. Of course, if you don't understand English yourself, the matter changes. |
|
Aug-31-08 | | Red October: < TheaN > Its great that you take the trouble to give a translation (many dont), if I had to translate this into Dutch I would be up the creek, but luckily I have made many Dutch friends here who would probably help me out :) but I think its fine people post in other languages :) the admins can always double check if a post is against the rules I think |

Dec-22-08 | | zzzzzzzzzzzz: i've seen this game before |

Feb-03-09
 | | Benzol: According to Hans Hecht 26...♖b8 gives good drawing chances. However, he was down to ten minutes on the clock with thirteen moves still to make and made the knight move instead allowing Tal to occupy the b-file with the rook. |
|
Feb-03-09 | | ARival: Hecht was a guest @ Benzols club last
night & gave a lecture on this game,
'after 18. ...b5 he got up & went for a walk,Tal thought for about 45 minutes then played 19.exf6. When that move appeared on the big monitors everyone descended on the game'
The position was the subject of a semi
abstract painting Hecht saw & bought years later. Only one fault the pawn on c5 is missing. |

Feb-03-09 | | ughaibu: I would've flown to New Zealand for that, might even have swum. Where's his next stop? |
|
Feb-03-09 | | ughaibu: These Kiwis go to sleep pretty early, I guess it's all that counting sheep. |

 | | Benzol: <ughaibu> <I would've flown to New Zealand for that, might even have swum. Where's his next stop?> He has a week in the Bay Of Islands north of Auckland then flys out for a two day stop in Hong Kong. Not so far to swim for you to get there. :) |
|
Feb-03-09 | | ughaibu: Wow! They get up before I go to bed!!
Have you got his phone number? My wife's in hospital so I'll have ask him to come here. |
|
Feb-03-09 | | whiteshark: swimming ? |
