  takebackok: Easy tick tack Tuesday, all forced 26...Nc2+ (if 28. Kd1 Qb1#) or 27. Nxc2 Qb1+ 28. Rd1 Q or Rxd1#
Jul-01-25  mel gibson: Pretty easy today too.

  rodchuck: Doesn't Nde2 also work?
Jul-01-25  cocker: Easy when you see it, but a lot of moves to be considered <rodchuck> 26 ...Nde2 is met by 27 Nd5.
Jul-01-25  saturn2: I took 26...Nxh3 27.Bxh3 Nf3 28. Qxf3 Qxd2

  al wazir: 26...Nxh3 27. Bxh3 Nf3+ 28. Qxf3 (28. Kf1 Nxd2+) Qxd2+ also wins. (Black is up two exchanges.)
Jul-01-25  TheaN: Lot of options today and the fairly simple mate is a bit hidden. Black's clearly in the better with these monsters (apologies to horse adorers) aiming the U shape around the White king, but how to finish?

The simple 26....Nxh3 looked a bit tame, but it works because everything is overloaded: still somewhat required to see the main idea if 27.Qf6!?, as Black stops the checkmate on g7 by... checkmating. 27....Nc2+ 28.Ke2 (else Qxd2#) Qxd2+ 29.Kf3 Qf2#.

<rodchuck: Doesn't Nde2 also work?>

26....Nde2?!, the second option I saw (typically), seems like a very flashy try to abuse the pin on Rd2 but this fails after 27.Nd5. Black is <still> better after 27....Rxd5 28.exd5 Nd4 ∓ but zero progress down material.

But no, once you see the weak back rank and Qb1 options, it clicks quickly. Ulhmann finished this swiftly with <26....Nc2+!>, <27.Nxc2 (Kd1 Qb1#) Qb1+ 28.Rd1 Rxd1#>.

<mel gibson: Pretty easy today too.>

Hm. In a messy position like this it's entirely perspective. If you eye Nc2+ right away, it is. If you get lost in all the other options, it's actually quite a mess.

  chrisowen: Yes well alter c2 ...
Jul-01-25  Hercdon: Another embarrassment of riches. Nxh3 is also very winning
Jul-01-25  King.Arthur.Brazil: After the magic 26...Nde2! 27. Bxe2 Rxd2 28. Kf1 Nxh3 (2♖ x1♗) or 28... Rxe2 29. Qxe2 Nxe2 30. Kxe2 Qb2+ etc. I'm so sleepy today that I saw Qb1+ was stupid, that I even try another check... Nc2+ end.

  murkia: Truly "un embarass de richesse". I also chose Nxh3 which wins convincingly and considered but missed the simple winning line. Tricky?
