Chessical: A fine Nimzo Indian played by Reshevsky.

Donner plays the opening with little energy, and then having played <22.Ne1> does not blockade Reshevsky's threatening pawns with Nd3, but plays a weakening e4.

The e4 idea would have been appropriate earlier, for instance:

<13.e4> Nxe4 14.Qc2 Nc5 15.b4 axb4 16.axb4 Nca6 17.Bd3 h6 18.Qc3 e5 19.c5

Reshevsky's e and f pawns mow Donner down in the centre.

Jan-26-08  sneaky pete: 26.Nb7 Qxa3 27.Nxd8 e2 28.Rxf3 .. (Euwe) probably saves white's game.
Apr-29-15  zydeco: There are some grandmasters (probably the majority) who are always in the thick of it even in games they lose. And then there are some (even elite) grandmasters who seem to get blown off the board with surprising regularity. Donner's definitely one of them. Benko's another. Uhlmann. Euwe. Not sure if there's any particular explanation for it.....but something definitely happens in certain games to cloud Donner's judgment.
Apr-29-15  RookFile: I think Reshevsky just thought he was fresh meat. Donner didn't get the GM title until 1959.
Jun-18-22  cehertan: Sneaky Pete, 26.Nb7 probably does not save white. 26..Rxd1! 27.Bxe7 f2+ 28.Kg2 Rxf1 29.Kxf1 Ng4 wins handily. 25..exf3 was a beautiful intermezzo by Reshevsky.
