Dec-25-02  David S. Brummer: 12. R(a)-d1 might be a better try, then if 12..Nxc2 13. Bh6 (disallowing h5 as in the game) followed by Rh3 and possibly Ne4 - Ng5 more in the spirit of the variation. It is true that Black might get a chance to make some in between moves but don't confuse me with the facts as my mind is made up; which is the problem with this entire opening system
Dec-26-02  GregorMendel: Is the Blackmar-Diemer gambit sound? Do you think that White gets a big enough advantage out of it so that it is compensation for the pawn?
Dec-27-02  AgentRgent: It's generally considered to be unsound, but as Tartakower said "As long as an opening is Dubious, It's Playable!"
Dec-27-02  refutor: unsound but dangerous, is how i'd describe it :)
Dec-27-02  GregorMendel: Agent: At least for Tartakower, it was playable. :)

Sneaky: I respond to 1.d4 with ...d5 and frankly, I'm afraid of it. The way that White opens up both the e and f files for his attack is quite problematic. It's almost like the King's gambit of 1.d4 openings.
Apr-21-03  Bears092: I used to play the Blackmar Gambit (3.f3, not 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. f3), and I stopped after it became appararant that I was winning about 40% of my games with it as opposed to 60% overall. (This is on the local HS circuit BTW)
Apr-21-03  AgentRgent: <Chessgames.com> I can't really see calling this a Scandinavian. I know how your system is supposed to work and perhaps the resulting formation is "Scandinavian-ish", but I really think it's wrong here. I don't know of any literature that considers the Blackmar-Diemer to be a sub-line of the Scandinavian...

Sneaky: Blackmar-Diemer gambit should be D00

chessgames.com: We tracked down the problem. A very basic position from the Blackmar-Diemer gambit was categorized in our datafile as B01. That's clearly wrong, so we fixed it. Now this game and all games like it should be categorized correctly.

ksadler and others have pointed out similar problems. We'll fix our definition-file as situations like this come to light. Thanks for all your help.

Dec-23-03  Dick Brain: Looks like a good defensive plan for Black. White should not have given up the second pawn with 12. Raf1 (so easy to say in hindsight), better was 12. Bb3. White still has uncomfortable pressure after 12 ... Qd7 13 Raf1 Rad8 but notice that Black can drive White back a little on 14 Rh3 with 14 ... Qg4. A lot to worry about for both sides.
Aug-31-08  PAWNTOEFOUR: after 1.7 million nodes,crafty comes up with this........pv 16.Qc1 Nxd4 17.Bd3 Nxf2 18.Rxf2 c5 19.Qf4 Rc8 20.Be4 Qc7 21.Qg5 Rfe8 22.Rd3 Rcd8 23.Rfd2 -343 Crafty
