Feb-10-05  schnarre: 2. f4 used to be my main reply to 1...g6 (I won each game--14 in all). I've since stayed with 2. c4. Afterwards f4, Nf3,e4 (which by itself usually fares well agaist 1...g6) follow & White usually comes out ahead.

fredthebear: In the final position, Black's bishop cannot afford to capture the White rook because of 35.Qh7#. If Black tries 34...Rh8 to prevent mate, then 35.Rxf7+ Kg8 36.Rf8+ KxRf8 37.QxRh8#.
Aug-28-16  Granny O Doul: Interesting that White passed up 23. Bf4.
Feb-27-19  jith1207: White can have a very fun ending :

34...Rh8 35. Rxf7+ Kg8 36. Rf8+ Kg7 37. Ne6+ Qxe6 (this 37th move isn't necessary) 38. Qxh8#

Feb-27-19  jith1207: It was important for White to move the queen to H file and take out a key defender in black Knight at g7.

I guess, if white tried different variation, 31. Ng5 Rb2 32. Qh4 Ne6

The black Knight escapes and protects the g7 square or exchange the white Knight in short order.
