Kibitzer's Corner
May-29-05  lentil: no doubt this is all Book, but how does W proceed after 15. ... Qxg5. I have looked at 16. de Bxg2 17. ed+ Kd8 18. Qe8+ Kc7 19. Nxb5+ Kb6 20. d8Q+ Rxd8 21. Qxd8+ Kxb5 and Q seems to have run out of materiel to continue the attack. Same conclusion after 16. de Bxg2 17. ed+ Kxd7 18. Rd1+ Kc6.

Is it just 16. Nxb5 Qxf6 17. Nc7+ Ke7 18. Nxa8 etc.?

Obviously, the BK is stranded in the centre, but it doesn't look lost. Did B simply defer to the judgement of the higher-rated opponent?

Jun-18-05  refutor: actually 16.f4! is stronger. then 16. ...Qxf6 17.dxe6 and if 17. ...Qxe6 18.Qxe6+ fxe6 19.Bxb7

17. ...Bxg2 18.exd7+ Kxd7 19.O-O-O+ Kc8 20.Qxg2 looks prettygood
