Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-18-24  mel gibson: I saw the first few moves straight away.

Stockfish 17 declines the Rook and says:

24. . Rxf2

(24. .. Rxf2 (1. ... Rxf2 2.Re2 Rxe2 3.Qxe2 Qxg3 4.Qf2 Qxf2+ 5.Kxf2 Be5 6.Kg1 Rd8 7.Bf1 d3 8.Be3 d2 9.Rd1 Bxb2 10.Bxa7 Nf6 11.Be3 Bc3 12.Bg5 Kf7 13.Kg2 Rd7 14.Bb5 Rd4 ) +7.59/40 275)

score for Black +7.59 depth 40.

If I force SF to accept the Rook:

25. Kxf2 Rf8+

(25. .. Rf8+ (1. ... Rf8+ 2.Kg1 Qxg3 3.Rf1 Rf3 4.Rxf3 gxf3 5.Qf1 d3 6.e5 fxg2 7.Qxg2 Qe1+ 8.Qf1 d2 9.Bxd2 Qxd2 10.Rd1 Qxb2 11.Rd8+ Nf8 12.Qf4 Qb6+ 13.Qd4 Qxd4+ 14.Rxd4 Bxe5 ) +8.48/49 266)

score for Black +8.48 depth 49.

When White resigns it's mate in 14:

LIFE Master AJ: I found the first few moves, but lost my way in the maze of complications. (I was working only from the diagram.)

TREMENDOUSLY complicated, IMO this could have been a Sunday puzzle.

Oct-18-24  vajeer: Pronouncing White's name is more complicated than the puzzle ;-)
Oct-18-24  Viennablue: I expected 29.Qe1 - which also leads to mate-in-10.

Oct-18-24  landshark: Missed it by a mile -
What this puzzle really exposes (for me anyway) is how I don't consider enough candidate moves.
