Dec-28-02  refutor: blindfold chess at it's worst
Dec-29-02  pawntificator: hey, you've never seen me play blindfold chess.

Eggman: I guess I can understand why someone might conceivably be interested in watching two grandmasters play each other without sight of the board (actually I really can't understand it), so long as the event is live. But to want to look at such a game afterward rather than a serious game ... that I can't come close to understanding. And to mention performance in such frivolous exhibitions as some indication of a player's status ... that is mystifying.
Nov-22-03  FeArMySkiLLz: good play
Nov-22-03  Voxation: If 2 people are playing blindfold chess, then how do they know what piece the other one has moved or captured?
Nov-22-03  refutor: they call out the moves...e.g. kramnik "d4" shirov "Nf6" kramnik "c4" shirov "g6" etc.
Nov-25-03  MoonlitKnight: Wow! Shirov must have been drunk AND blindfold.
Dec-19-03  admeyer: Very instructive game here. Show this to some novices, then tell 'em that the guy playing with the black pieces is prolly the most prolific attacker of our times. Hey, sit happens when you can't see the board.
Dec-19-03  square dance: queenxbishop whoops!!!
Apr-10-04  pikoro: The move is good. 14...exd4 forks Knight and Bishop and retakes the lost piece.
Jun-30-04  mystique.mystique: These people are supergrandmasters ...
on the contrary this game shows the human side of man...
Jun-30-04  acirce: This is not typical of blindfolded games, though; most are still of pretty high quality.
Sep-27-05  lopium: Ahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazzz!!!! What a funny last move for black!!
Sep-27-05  lopium: Hey, finally not that bad, he thought he could take the N on c3 and then white would have taken the pawn, which isn't good because of the bishop in g 7 menacing a Bxc3.
Oct-04-05  lopium: Ahh!! Blindfold, ok. lolz, I thought they were thinking!
Nov-13-05  SuicidalKing: Do blind fold games affect rating?
Nov-13-05  child of my tears: <SuicidalKing> No they are not rated, which is just as well for Mr Shirov.

Unusual to see blindfold games of this standard. Particularly surprising to see 13.Qxg5?? since the black queen had only just moved to g4. Maybe Shirov thought he had already played h6.

All in all though, games like this aren't worth much to the database.

Nov-13-05  Hesam7: <refutor: they call out the moves...e.g. kramnik "d4" shirov "Nf6" kramnik "c4" shirov "g6" etc.>

I thought in Amber they play on empty screens. As <acirce> says this game is very unusual. For a high quality blindfold game look at this: Kramnik vs Ivanchuk, 1996

Nov-27-05  Chopin: I only wish I can play blindfold chess this well :)
Feb-09-06  McCool: What was he thinking???? 13. ..♕xg5????
Mar-22-06  McCool: Shirov must have felt pretty embarrased.

Honza Cervenka: <For a high quality blindfold game look at...> This is even better example: Kramnik vs Topalov, 2003
Jan-26-07  Tactic101: Well, it is interesting to see GMs make big mistakes. Makes us feel a bit better! ;)
May-09-07  gBizzle: Shirov has a knack for blindfold chess!
Feb-22-09  WhiteRook48: 13...Qxg5?? is crazy
