Jun-12-05 | | Akavall: 5...Nf6 would lead to an interesting game after 6. Nxf6 gf |
|
Jun-13-05 | | InspiredByMorphy: Kiss recieves the kiss of death in this miniature. 4. ...Qd5 cannot be recommended although Kiss did play it another time and won with it. Whites 5th move wasent as strong in reply however... B Perenyi vs L Kiss, 1988 |

Dec-13-05 | | Chopin: 9. ♘e5 was the kiss of death- black loses the bishop. |

Dec-19-05 | | DeepBlade: Qxg2, c'mon people it is not so hard! :P
Just kidding, but as we all know, bringing out the Queen too early equals problems. Kinda the urge to acchieve big things with the Queen, but ending up forked. |
|
Sep-10-07 | | Monkey King: After Nc3 Bb4! and black has a slight edge.(only slight do to white's lead in development. |

Aug-07-12 | | RookFile: 9.... Qxg2 invites 10. Be4, of course. |

Aug-07-12 | | Ghuzultyy: That was a poor French Kiss! |

Nov-24-14 | | billyhan: I find all these puns quite "tongue in cheek". |

 | | Domdaniel: <Ohio> Thanks. I loved it. (Not that this game depressed me, or anything -- but it's good to see such an original Black win in the French.) |
|
Jan-01-15
 | | Domdaniel: Black makes a basic error here: he tries to combine two incompatible openings plans/ideas. One is the Katalymov Variation (3...dxe4 4.Nxe4 Qd5!?) which is actually quite playable, and never mind what some people say about early Queen moves. The 2nd idea is ...Bd7-b5, appropriated from the Wade Variation of the Advance French. It just won't work in this context. |

Sep-30-22 | | Cheapo by the Dozen: Kiss In The Dark |
|
Oct-28-22 | | Cheapo by the Dozen: I submitted the pun as a reference to the song of that title, which was famous enough back in the day to parody. Googling now shows that there was a movie of that title too, perhaps also a a reference to the song. |

 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: Bad enough Black plays the Rubinstein, but to play 4...Qd5--egad. Might as well play 5...Qxd4?? and let White put him out of his misery. |
|
Oct-28-22
 | | FSR: Kiss was in the dark, all right. Instead of 8..Qc6??, a much better try was 8...Bb4! It still loses, but White must find 9.Qa4+! (only move) Nc6 10.O-O! (only move) Qa5 (10...Bxc3 11.Bxc4 Qa5 transposes) 11.Bxc4 (only move) Bxc3 and now White crushes with 12.Qb3! Bb4 13.a3! |

Oct-28-22 | | Fiddlerookie: Hello gang: I'm still mostly lurking and learning and enjoying the kibitzing on the site immensely. By day I'm a songwriter and teach songwriting: and so I was intrigued by tpstar's ingenious annotation (from 2004!) where they annotated the moves with the lyrics from Prince's "Kiss" and - as we say in the songwriting biz - the prosody was perfect. I'm wondering - besides punning titles, is this move by move annotation with song lyrics a "thing" in the chess world? Inquiring minds want to know... I also note the player Kiss (Hungarian apparently) has exactly two games in the DB - from 1934 and 1988 respectively... Hmmm... Are we perhaps dealing with a kiss of the toothier sort here? |

Oct-28-22 | | goodevans: Thanks <FSR> for injecting some interest into this dross. At the end of that very nice analysis it's obvious that Black can't move his B but he can try <13...b5>. click for larger viewWhite can get a decent advantage with <14.axb4 bxc4 15.Qxc4> since 14...Qxa1? 15.Bxb5 would trap the Q but that's not completely crushing. Much more convincing would be <14.Bxe6!>, e.g. <14...fxe6 15.Qxe6+ Nge7 16.axb4>. click for larger viewBlack must now play <16...Qxb4> with a view to getting the Q back to d6 to take off some of the pressure. <17.Re1> maintains the pin and then <17...Qd6 18.Qa2!> stops Black from castling. Even though material is about equal, with Black's K stuck in the middle and all those open lines, White is easily winning. |

 | | Teyss: Humorous pun. Thanks to <FSR> and <goodevans> for their interesting analyses as usual. <Cheapo by the Dozen> Apparently the movie title not related to the song. Before the Prince song there were with the same title two other movies, a pop group and an album from another group. <Fiddlerookie> It's not usual since it required tpstar's creativity to come up with these funny posts. Unfortunately he passed away two years ago. |
|
Oct-28-22 | | Cheapo by the Dozen: <Teyss>,
The song the title refers to is about 100 years old. I don't know anything about more recent ones. |
|
Oct-28-22 | | Fiddlerookie: <Teyss> - thanks for the context and very sorry to hear about tpstar's passing. I would search the archives for other humorous lyric annotations of his, but apparently he kibitzed more than 17000 times. |
