Dec-12-04  erasmus: <chess saying> Hold your horses!
Dec-12-04  DanielBryant: As a Budapest player, these are the positions that give me nightmares.
Dec-12-04  drukenknight: yeah, that one and about 5 million other positions. I never know how I lose these and the losses keep coming.
Dec-12-04  Pawsome: It appears that black is trouble after 7... a5 and that he must therefore snap up the e5 pawn on his 7th move, thus: 7 ... Nge5 8, Ne5 Ne5 9. b4 Bd6 10, Nc3 c6 11. Qd4 Bc7 12. Rd1 f5! 13. Be2 d6 14, Bh5+ g6 15. Be2 00 16, 00 Be6, and his game is tenable, If white plays the aggressive 8. b4 then it appears 8... Nf3+ 9.Qf3 Bd4 10. Ra2 d6 11. c5 dc5 12. Bb5 Bd7 13. bc5 Qc5 14, Qe4 + Kf8 leads to an wild complications. What's the book line here you Budapest fans?
Dec-12-04  drukenknight: agree w/ your analysis. This should be a lesso to all budapest players. I am behind in material and I have a chance to catch up.

By playing ..a5 what have I done?

as far as book line, my guess is they left book on move 7 it will be fun to see wher they left book.

Jan-12-05  erasmus: A budapest player is adviced (and this game shows why) to take back the pawn or to castle kingside before playing a5.

FSR: Seemingly Black should play the main line 5...Bb4+ instead.
Nov-13-19  sea7kenp: It's funny: According to Opening Explorer, the Budapest "slightly" favors White, but theses Collections of Opening Disasters, seem to favor Black. (One thing for certain: If you're White, accept the Gambit. 3 d5 favors Black by 58%, and 3 Bg5 appears horrible for White!)
