Candle: After Black's 29...Rd7 White can easily win with 30.Rxc6, winning a piece. But White apparently misses it and played 30.Rd6. Would Zukertort and Rosenthal really make these moves?

Besides being a blunder, playing 29...Rd7 after 28...Rd2 seems strange. I had first thought that the score must be wrong and that 29...Ba4 30.Rd6 Rxd6 31.Bxd6 Bd5, etc made more sense.

However, when chasing sources I found that Steinitz annotated this game in 'The Field' on 26/6/1880 (https://www.chessarch.com/archive/1...) and the game score in the Field agrees with the one here, taken from 'The Chess Monthly'. Steinitz makes no comment about Black's blunder on move 29 or White missing the reply 30.Rxc6. A bit of a puzzle.

beatgiant: <Candle> But the source you cite above is not the original text, as it has been converted to algebraic notation. My guess would be 29...Bd7.
