tpstar: Excellent technique by White converting the endgame: double Rooks on the seventh, force Black's pieces to the back rank, then create a mating net with the Pawns supported by the King. 41. g5+ Kh5 42. Rxh7+! works just as well.

Black probably avoided 32 ... Qe7 due to 33. Rc8 threatening 34. Rxc7, and if 33 ... Rf7 34. h5 is strong. Or 32 ... Qxb2 33. Qxc7+ Rf7 34. Qc3+ trading Queens anyway. But Black would have much better chances keeping Queens around.

Great game.

Oct-30-07  RookFile: I agree wholeheartedly. Just quickly, I played over the first 4 games for Stanley in this database, and was surprised to see modern looking, intersting games.

I get the feeling that Stanley at his best was a 2200 strength player.
