Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-04-10  cocker: In the final position Black can draw with 63 ... ♖e7+ followed by ♔xb4. Perhaps he lost on time. The position after 58 ... ♔c6 is analysed in Nunn's book, UCE, diagram 53a. The position should be drawn, but Black went astray with 59 ... ♔b5. In turn, White returned the half-point with 63 ♔e4, but Black failed to take advantage.

Peligroso Patzer: As pointed out by Nunn in the source mentioned by <cocker>, the most accurate winning move at White's 63rd turn was <63. Kg6> (Win in 27). This prevents Black giving checking along the file. (The seemingly more direct <63. Ke6?> blocks the 6th rank and would allow <63. ... Kxb4!>=.)

The key point is that with White's Rook mobile along the 6th rank, Black must remove his Rook from the b-file before he can take the b-pawn with his King. Any time Black's rook is on b7 or b8, if Black plays <1. ... Kxb4> then <2. Rb6+> is .
