Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-15-04  Knight13: 5. Bd7?? is a big mistake Buhalo made. Good game.
Oct-15-04  notsodeepthought: I wonder if black doesn't have an even stronger continuation in the 6 ... Nc6 "asterisked" line: after 8 c3, instead of 8 ... e5, doesn't 8 ... a6 9 Na3 Nb6 followed by Ra7 win the queen?
Oct-15-04  Knight13: I mean <5... Bd7??> not 5. Bd7.
Oct-17-04  F47: I do not think 6. Bc6 was a blunder, but more of weak tactical vision beginners face. He was trying to trap the queen and did not think there was any place for the queen to go. But he did not see BB5, something I probably would not have predicted.
Oct-17-04  uzeromay: Interesting point. A blunder is something one overlooks, but that presumes vision to see it in the first place.
Feb-12-05  semesterian: It's often easy to forget that players rated below 2000 play not only fascinating but sparkling chess. Personally I feel that the Blackmar-Diemer is lost for White, but that would only apply if two 2700+ players employed it in a game. As for the mortals like us, well, the sky's the limit.
Feb-12-05  Jamespawn: Is this worth playing out in hopes of a draw?
Feb-12-05  semesterian: Welcome to chessgames.com, Jamespawn! Well, to put matters in terms that you and I can understand, just peek at the position. White is up a pawn and the exchange. He also has a passed a-pawn. Black has an isolated c-pawn but that's not nearly as important. The development of pieces on the Kingside (neither side has castled) is ideal for neither side but that isn't important. White should win. Even a FIDE 1800 would probably resign this position at this juncture.

tpstar: <Jamespawn> Miniatures are very useful for learning what not to do in the opening, where an early slip leads to a quick knock-out. Here 7. Bb5! was a clever way to win material, since 7 ... Bxb5 8. Nxb5 with the double threats of 9. Qxa8 and 9. Nxc7+. Black was probably intending 8 ... Qxc6 to defend the Ra8 but this loses to 9. Qc8#, thus 8 ... Nxc6 9. Qxa8+ and White was up a Rook with an easy win.
Feb-12-05  semesterian: Tpstar is right, as usual.
Jan-16-06  DeepBlade: Qleening the Cueenside

This game demonstrates how NOT to defend agains the BDG.

May-12-06  MorphyMatt: how do you make variations (little asterisk thingys) if you're submitting a game to the chessgames database?

  FSR: Black managed to find a way to fall into the infamous Englund Gambit trap [1.d4 e5? 2.dxe5 Nc6 3.Nf3 Qe7 4.Bf4 Qb4+ 5.Bd2 Qxb2 6.Bc3?? (6.Nc3!) Bb4! 7.Qd2 Bxc3 and wins (8.Qxc3 Qc1#)] with colors reversed.
