Chessical: Wisker gives Rosenthal the chance to secure a draw in this K+P ending by the hasty <45...d4+?>. Instead, <45...Kd6> 46.Kd4 Kc6 47.h4 e3 wins.

Rosenthal is oblivious to this, missing <46.Kc4!> Kd6 47.b7=; note 46.Kc4 <d3?> 47.b7 would lose for Black.

MissScarlett: Sceptical that both players would miss such an obvious resource, the first source I looked at - the <ILN> of January 7th 1871, p.15 - revealed that <43.Ke3>, not <Kc3>, was apparently played.
Apr-25-23  Stolzenberg: <28. Nb4> looks strange. A few moves later Black played 33. ... a5 and forced the knight to return to d5. Perhaps White shoud have preferred 28. Nc7 instead.
Apr-26-23  Stolzenberg: <29. Ke1> is another passive move hard to understand. Instead 29. Kf2 could be considered, as e3 seems to be the best square to the king.
Apr-26-23  Stolzenberg: <32. gxh5> opened f5 to the black king and weakened the pawn f4. However after the immediate 32. Kd2 it could follow for example: 32. ... hxg4 33. hxg4 a5 34. Nd5 Bxd5 35. cxd5+ Kxd5 36. Ke3 Ke6 37. a3 d5 38. b4 axb4 39. axb4 d4+ 40. Kd2 Kd5 41. f5 gxf5 42. gxf5 Kc4 43. f6 e3+ 44. Kd1 d2 45. f7 Kd3 46. f8=Q e2#.
