Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-11-04  Calli: Great endgame manuevres. Salwe forces zugswang with 84...Kc2 White must lose material at that point. Instructive from around move 62.
Dec-11-04  drukenknight: is 86 g5 forced?
Dec-12-04  Calli: Herr Süchting claimed that 62.Kb5 is correct as the king can go to c6-d7 and avoid what happened in the game.

<DK> Isn't it obvious that if K-moves then Rh3 wins a pawn and if B-moves well then its really all over.

  GrahamClayton: <drukenknight>is 86 g5 forced?

<drukenknight>,
Let's have a look at the alternatives:

86. ♗h1 ♖xh1 loses immediately.
86. ♗e2 and 86. ♗g2 loses the bishop after 86...♖a2. 86. ♗e4 loses the g-pawn after 86...♖xg4.
86. ♗d1 ♖h2+ 87. ♔a3 ♖h1 88. ♗b3 ♖g1 seems to win the g-pawn. 86. ♔a3/♔a1 ♖h3 - any Bishop move other than 87. ♗g2 loses the bishop. 87. ♗g2 ♖g3 wins the g-pawn.

May-25-19  zydeco: After 85.Ka3 Rd4 is zugzwang.

  Honza Cervenka: 40.Kh2! would have left black without counter-play in quite bad position, for example 40.Kh2 Ra8 41.Rf2 Qb8 42.Bd7 Qf8 43.Bf5 Nxf5 44.Rxf5 Qf7 45.Qh6 and white wins.
