  wwall: Perhaps 23...Bxe2 24.Nxe2 Nc7 or 24...Nf6.

Perhaps best is 24...Bb7. Or, 24...Ng4, and if 25.Ra1 Nxe3 26.Rxa6 Bxf4 27.Ne6+ Kg8 28.Nxf4 Rf8, and Black should be OK. Black can also play 24...Bxf4 25.Bxf4 Bb7.

Not 27...Bc7??, since 28.Nfe6 wins a piece. Perhaps better is 27...Kf6.

If 32...Nf5 or 32...Nc2, then 33.Nef4 wins a pawn. But that may be better than getting the knight trapped at d1.

Perhaps 33...h4. If 34.Nd4 Bxd4 35.cxd4 Kf5 36.Ke2 Ke4, and Black should be OK or may be winning.

If 34...Bf4, then 35.Ke2 Ne3 36.g3 wins a piece.

After 36.g4 hxg4+ (36...Kg6 37.Ke2) 37.hxg4+ Ke6 38.Ke2 Nxb2 39.Nxb2 wins.

perfidious: <wwall> On psychological grounds, it's difficult for even an experienced master to part with the two bishops here- they're the only compensation for his pawn weaknesses in this ending.
Feb-05-07  Cyphelium: <wwall> <Perhaps 33...h4. If 34.Nd4 Bxd4 35.cxd4 Kf5 36.Ke2 Ke4, and Black should be OK or may be winning.>

On 33.- h4, 34. ♘ef4 still looks problematic, for example:

34.- d4 35. ♘xe5 ♔xe5 36. ♘d3+ ♔d5 37. c4+ ♔d6 38. ♔e4 ♘e3 39. ♔xd4 ♘xg2 40. ♔e4 g5 41. ♔f3 ♘f4 42. ♘xf4 gxf4 43. ♔xf4 with a winning pawn endgame or 34.- ♗xf4 35. ♘xf4 ♘xb2 36. ♘xd5+ ♔e5 37. ♘xb6 winning.
