Oct-15-05  Granite: This is a fantastic game - so many sacs!!
Apr-04-06  TylerD: Wonderful game in which Morozevich shows great creative will - and Topalov shows great technique...
Apr-04-06  hartkoka: great topalov. lost the exchange and worse king position, but still win :)
Apr-04-06  AlexanderMorphy: absolutely magnificent! wow Moro seemed to have the upper hand after the middlegame, bt topalov is unpredictable and pulled of an incredible victory!
Apr-04-06  SickedChess: nice game of two fighters!
Apr-04-06  tayer: Why not 60. bxc5 ?
Apr-11-06  AlexanderMorphy: well because black queens!
Apr-11-06  wallytherhino: topalov scraped out a win with a quicker pawn promotion but the whole game was still razor close but topalov's tactical prowess edged him past the always dangerosu Moro

Phony Benoni: It should be pointed out that this was a Game/30 tournament, so there was surely a humungous time scramble in the endgame.
Jul-25-06  MeatGrinder: Nope it was classical.

Honza Cervenka: <Wonderful game in which Morozevich shows great creative will - and Topalov shows great technique...> I would say rather great luck of Topalov than anything else. In fact, Moro completely outplayed Vesko in this game but collapsed in the end (probably in severe time pressure). For example, after simple 60.Qe2 black could have resigned. Or 63.Qe4+ Kg1 (63...Kg3 64.Qh1) 64.Qxf4 f1=Q 65.Qxg4+ is also relatively easily won endgame for white.
Jul-26-06  TheBB: 48...f3?? is a grotesque blunder, but Moro didn't see it.

49. Qd6+ Kf6 (49...Ke4 50. Rc4 Bd4 51. Qxd4#) 50. Qxe6+ Kg5 (50...Kg7 is mate in 15!!) 51. Qxg6+ and white wins.

Then Topalov allows Moro the chance again on move 51, but now Moro plays 51. Qh8??.

51... Rg7 or 51... Kd5 is okay for black, but 51... Kf4?? is a blunder again. It allows Moro a mate in 3: 52. Rc4+ Bd4 (moving the king and Qh4#) 53. Qxd4+ and mate follows.

Also, the black king should move on move 54. Rg7 allows white the advantage again, and this time Moro DID see it.

From then on Moro is winning until 64. b5?? (Qe4+ was needed).

Then Topalov could take it home.

Looks like both were in time trouble towards the end. Moro should at least have seen the mate on the 52nd move.

Honza Cervenka: <TheBB> To miss a tactical shot or accurate line in time troubles and in quite irrational position is no great sin but you are right, 52.Rc4+ was pretty obvious. But I guess that more embarrassing than that is quite clueless and completely planless play of Moro in ending Q+2p vs B+2p. Well, it was not so easy yet, for example my 60.Qe2 Ba7 is not so clear as 61.c4 Kh2 62.c5 g3 63.Qf1 Bb8 with next Bf4, Be3 and g2 is quick enough to save black, although 60.Qe2 Ba7 61.Kb3 Kh2 62.Qxg4 f1=Q 63.Qh5+ Qh3+ (black has to trade the Queen as white threatened to give two other checks with next QxB) 64.Qxh3+ Kxh3 65.Kc4 Kg4 66.Kd5 is still probably won for white and certainly without risk of loss. So then Moro's 60th move was not as bad (also 60.bxc5 f1=Q 61.c6 should be considered ) but 63.Qe2 is a lemon. 63.Qe4+ Kg3 64.Qh1 freezes any movement of black Pawns forever and white wins easily. The alternative is a Queen ending with two connected Pawns of white which is technically won. 63.Qe2 makes no sense to me.
May-17-07  Whitehat1963: Regardless of the errors here, this is a gorgeous game to play through.
Mar-21-09  newzild: Yeah, looks like 52.Rc4+ was a simple mate-in-three.
Mar-21-09  tivrfoa: <TheBB> is right!! moro lost a excellent oportunite. I think moro become suspicious after the queen sac.
Mar-21-09  RandomVisitor: 62...Kh2 is better and might hold the draw for black.
Mar-21-09  RandomVisitor: 30.Qe4 Be3 31.Qxb4 hxg4 32.hxg4 Rxg4 is probably white's best attempt to maintain pressure.
Mar-21-09  dzechiel: <tayer: Why not 60. bxc5?>

This is my question also. After 60...f1=Q 61 c6 it still looks like a horse race to me.

JointheArmy: Possibly the greatest game I've ever seen. So many sacs and back and forth action.
Mar-21-09  zafo07: Very nice game!! both players are very good
Mar-21-09  Autoreparaturwerkbau: The Queen. One of the greatest bands of my time.
Mar-21-09  Once: <dzechiel: <tayer: Why not 60. bxc5?> This is my question also. After 60...f1=Q 61 c6 it still looks like a horse race to me.>

Better still, why not 60. Qe5+? If 60...Kg2 61. Qd5+ Kg1 62. Qxc5

Or 60...Kh3 61. Qh5+ Kg3 62. Qh1

And white wins without much difficulty.

Exciting game to play through, although too many errors on both side to be a great game IMHO.

Mar-21-09  anjyplayer: Very rare game, where material advantage is of no use.
