Sneaky: So Pink, I suppose you think that thousands and thousands of professional chess players all over the world should just give up the game... in your world there should only be four or five people playing chess at any given moment, the rest all "suck."
Jan-15-05  Jafar219: Svdler spited to his fans. Why did he lose? I don`t understand!
Jan-15-05  ajit: Dear jafar,

<Svdler spited to his fans>??What do you mean??

<Why did he lose? I don`t understand! > Well, not only you but Svidler himself doesnot understand! Or if I may put it in another way, He could not understand Polgar's moves:-)

Jan-15-05  ajit: Seems like Polgar completely out-thought and outplayed Svidler. Considering that Svidler was in Kramnik's team and Kramnik had prepared to face Marshall, they must have done heavy analysis.

Thats why, this victory is all the more special and a tribute to her talent.

Jan-15-05  arielbekarov: Peter Svidler is not overrated !
He is an excellent chessplayer, but Judit Polgar is not going to a tournament without being very well prepared ! I have said it before !
She is not getting rusty from not playing in a tournament one year. There are topmusicians who takes a year of break, because it's necessary ! It's not less hard than topchess !

Judit Polgar could of very happy reasons not play, but she could study ! And who will not play well after such happiness ! It's not the first time ! She has a sound distance to chess, and it might be a part of her great comeback, but there are still many games to play !

And, it is about time that we men learn about the strenght of women that we men in general don't possess.

Judit Polgar ! Great win !
Ariel

Jan-15-05  Jafar219: Ariel are you fall in love with Judit?
Jan-15-05  me to play: As far as I can tell, black's 17th move Re8 is the first variation from theory.I don't know if Svidler prepared this or was "winging" it. My limited, I admit, Marshall data has 17...g5 here. Re8 is probably ok as he still seems alright at this point.
Jan-15-05  PinkPanther: No, I'm saying he's wasting his time if he devotes his entire life to chess, and still can't beat a woman who hasn't played chess in 15 months.
Jan-15-05  arielbekarov: <Jafar219>

I have always liked her and her whole family for what they are giving to chess, but I cannot deny that she is a very charming woman !

But she is happily married and now they have a wonderful little son ! I am really happy for them !!!

I have never met anyone of the family Polgar, but I would especially like to talk with her father, who is a brilliant chessteacher. I like his books very much !

His youngest daughter once again has proved that he is a great pedagogue ! Susan and Sophia Polgar are also brilliant !!
And the whole family are so healthy in their approach to chess and life in general ! Ariel

Jan-15-05  artemis: <pinkpanther> while i understand that she hasnt played chess in 15 months, she has no doubt been keeping up with theory and doing what she can to stay with the top level players. I think that this is not so much a devestating loss for svidler, but a magnificent win for polgar. True, she is out of practice, but look at her moves in this game. She does not seem to be lacking agression or precision in her beautiful attack. Anyway, what would you say about Kasparov when he drew Magnus Carlsen. Kasparov had been playing chess for the equivalent of 4 of Carlsen's lifetimes and he drew to him. Should Kasparov be viewed as a hasbeen and unworthy of top level chess?
Jan-15-05  GBKnight: Just looked at this game - it looks as if it would have been fairly equal if black had played 24...Bd5 ? Or am I missing something ? 24..Qd7 looks like a blunder, hoping for something based on Bd5 next move, which Rd1 prevents.
Jan-15-05  euripides: After 24...Bd5 25 Bb3 I think White wins a pawn either by exchanging on d5 or by 25...Bxb3 26 Qxc6. With same-coloured bishops left this looks good for White.

After 26... Rc6 another possibility is 27 Qh5 f5 (if ...g6 then 28 Bxg6) 28 Bf4, which looks quite promising for White.

Jan-15-05  shr0pshire: Well I would imagine that Judit enlisted help from her sisters while prepping for this tournament.

Let us not forget that the whole Polgar family are amazing chess players. And she doesn't have to go far to get good training partners (Susan getting the gold at the recent Olympaid).

She declared her intentions to play in this tournament several months beforehand. I am sure that she prepped very well with some "trainers."

Jan-15-05  yoozum: <Artemis>, keep in mind that rapid games such as Kasparov-Carlsen greatly favor the young (despite Anand being the champion). If it had been a classical game, Carlsen would have probably lost.

It's not like Svidler lost to a complete unknown here. Polgar was always deeply respected, regardless of her gender. Defeating Anand and Kasparov is no easy task.

Jan-15-05  patzer2: After 26...Rc8 (instead of 26...Bxa2?)27.Bc5 Bg4 28.Rxd6! Bxf3 29.Bxh7+! (29.Rxd7 Bxe4 ) 29...Kxh7 30.Rxd7 (Chessbase.com posted analysis), White is up a clear pawn with a better position. However, Black still has some hope for a draw, compared to none with 26...Bxa2?
Jan-15-05  Calli: <GBKnight> Yes, Qd7 seems to ask for trouble. The alternative is 24...Rc8 but Svidler evidently did not like the passive position after 25.Be4 Qe8 (not c5? Bb7)

-

Jan-16-05  DocNZ: Accepted 26...Bxa2?? but what what about 28...c5(?!)

how about forcing a difficult B+B v R endgame with:
28...Re8 29.Bc5 Re6 30.Bf5 Re1+ 31.Kg2 Qf7 32.Rd6 Bd5 33.Rd5 Qd5 34.Qd5+ cd5

I dont think this position is an easy win for white.

Jan-16-05  Arawak: It's interesting that most of the men that disparage Judit can't beat her. She beat Svidler. Period.

Sneaky: <No, I'm saying he's wasting his time if he devotes his entire life to chess, and still can't beat a woman who hasn't played chess in 15 months.> Yes, but he can beat a well rested Anand, so I guess Vishy could quit chess too. And he mops the floor with Kramnik (who hasn't had a baby recently) so I guess Kramnik should resign as world champion.

Like I said, in PinkPanther's world, nobody should be playing chess at all. An odd point of view coming from somebody who receives rook odds from 1400 players and still loses.

Jan-16-05  resty: What a woman!
Jan-17-05  Cecil Brown: Lubosh Kavalek on this game and Kramnik-Topalov:-

Jan-18-05  aw1988: Ariel and Judit sitting in a tree... :)
Jan-22-05  jondoe: Oh I get it, black loses bishop or queen.
Jan-22-05  artemis: <yoozum> point taken, but still, She is a very powerful grandmaster who has consistently beaten top players. Yes she took a break, but to assume that she was living in a cave and did not keep up with her chess is obviously incorrect. My point to pink panther was that people much better than Svidler have lost to people much worse than Polgar. If pink panther's comment <no, i'm saying he's wasting his time if he devotes his entire life to chess, and still cant beat a woman who hasnt played chess in 15 months> is seriously mean tfor this page, then I must ask of other grandmasters who have lost or drawn to people much worse then polgar. She is one of the top players in the world right now, and while her win here was unexpected, it is a magnificent feat for her, not a career ending blow to Svidler.
Jan-22-05  WillC21: Svidler's a joke. Can't play with the big boys but can beat everyone else underneath them and get a decent rating. Obviously not top 5 in the world.
