fredthebear: If Black plays the obvious recapture 27...KxBf7, then 28.RxBa4 (decoy sacrifice) arranges a queen fork after 28...RxRa4 29.Qb3+ and 30.QxRa4. This would leave White ahead in material with an extra rook.

In the actual game, White's last move 28.Bd5 threatens 29.Qh8#.

Feb-10-20  jith1207: Also, Bd5 prevents the Black's Re4+ check which would've been possible with 28.Be6

Even with Be6 and rook check, the rook can't take the bishop as it would lead to

Re4+ 29. Kf1 Bb5+ 30. Kg1 Rxe6 31. Qh8+ Kf7 32. Rd8

Where black Queen will have to be sacrificed to prevent mate. Even if Black doesn't, it's eventually in mating net.

Rd6 33. Qf8+ Ke6 34. Re1+ Kd5 35. Qf3+ Kc4 36. Qe4+ Rd4 37. Rc1+ Kb4 38. Qe1+ Ka4 39. Ra1+ Kb3 40. Qb1+ Kc4 41. Qc2+ Kb4 42. Qb2+ Kc4 43. Rc1+ Kd3 44. Qc2#
