chessgames.com: It's official, they shook hands.

Come back tomorrow morning at 9:30am for more live chess from Linares.

Feb-26-05  Bobsterman3000: Topalov doesn't seem to worried about Leko's advancing pawn on h3, probably because it's on the same file as Leko's king and queen...

this is the right one sorry

Feb-26-05  WillC21: well, now we can watch the other two games. Topalov-Leko is quite interesting!

Annie K.: CG.com, could we perhaps follow the Topalov-Leko game now? Please? =)
Feb-26-05  iron maiden: Anand doesn't concede very many draws as Black against players below 2700. Would it have been better to keep the bishops on the board?
Feb-26-05  bernieno: I don't understand why Anand wanted to exchange the bishops. He should instead try to get rid of the knight on c5.
Feb-26-05  Gypsy: Extra! Extra! The amazing Houdini escapes again!
Feb-26-05  WillC21: They can't beat Kasimdzahanov!
Feb-26-05  patzer2: Anand played better and had a slight advantage, but I've got to give Kasimdzhanov credit for finding a drawing line with the Black pieces.
Feb-26-05  samikd: Consecutive draw against Leko,Kasparov,Anand,Adams...I hope Kasim doesnt win this tournament, too !!
Feb-26-05  WillC21: Poor Paco lost again. Vallejo just doesn't belong here in the big leagues.
Feb-26-05  samikd: Adams beat Vallejo ?
Feb-26-05  Catfriend: Yep, right now
Feb-26-05  bobbyboomer: Just got home from work and see that the game is still going...next thing I know it is a draw!!...I am just a old woodpusher myself, but at first glance doesn't white look a little better?
Feb-26-05  yunis: as i hoped a fighting draw!hora KASIM
Feb-26-05  Bobsterman3000: Kasim is unbeatable.

Unfortunately, he can't win either...

Feb-26-05  patzer2: Will be interesting to see what the commentators have to say about the possibility 32. f4! favored by <Gypsy>. I think it offered White winning chances, but haven't yet looked at it too deep with Fritz 8 (though at 14 depth it has the evalution currently at +1.25). Apparently 32. f4! a5? 33. f5 is not good for Black, but 32. f4! g6!? or 32. f4! Rfb8!? offer Black the best chance to hold.
Feb-26-05  patzer2: In the final position, it is dead even after 33...fxe6 34.f3 a4 35.Nb5 Ra8 36.Red1 Kf7 37.Ra1 g5 38.Ra3 h5 39.g3 Ke7 =. I guess Anand figured Kasimdzhanov wouldn't have any problem finding an equalizing line, even though Black only had a little time left on the clock.
Feb-26-05  patzer2: After running Fritz 8 to 19/51 depth and 1283kN/s, it would appear the position after 32. f4! is still advantage to White but inconclusive. Black's best response to 32. f4! is 32...Rfb8, while the second best reply is 32...g6, and other replies lose:

± (1.28): 32...Rfb8 33.Be4 g6 34.f5 gxf5 35.Bxf5 h5 36.Rh4 Bxf5 37.Nxf5 Rb1 38.Rxb1 Rxb1+ 39.Kf2 Nd3+ 40.Ke3 Nxe5

2. ± (1.34): 32...g6 33.f5 Bd7 34.Ne4 Nxe4 35.Rxd7 Nc5 36.Rc7 Rfb8 37.Be4 Nxe4 38.Rxe4 gxf5 39.Rf4 R2b7

3. (1.59): 32...Nb3 33.Rdd1 g6 34.Be4 Nc5 35.g4 Rd8 36.Bh1 f5 37.exf6 Rb6

4. (1.66): 32...f5 33.exf6 Rxf6 34.Ne4 Nxe4 35.Bxe4 g6 36.Rd6 Kg7 37.c5 Bc8 38.Bd5 Rf8 39.Re7+

5. (1.66): 32...f6 33.exf6 Rxf6 34.Ne4 Nxe4 35.Bxe4 g6 36.Rd6 Kg7 37.c5 Bc8 38.Bd5 Rf8 39.Re7+

6. (1.81): 32...h5 33.f5 Bd7 34.Rd5 Nb7 35.Nxb7 Rxb7 36.Rd6 Bc8 37.Be4 Re7 38.f6 gxf6

7. (1.81): 32...a5 33.f5 Bd7 34.Rd5 Nb3 35.Bd3 a4 36.e6 fxe6 37.fxe6 Bxe6 38.Rxe6 a3 39.Rh5 h6

With so little time left on Black's clock, I think 32. f4! might well have given Anand winning chances.

Feb-27-05  Abaduba: People seemed disappointed that Kramnik isn't playing, but Kasim seems to be channelling his spirit. (=

5 games, 5 draws!

Feb-27-05  shortsight: but in kasim case, it's fighting draw, while kramnik's draw is ultimately because he plays for draw. it's not lack of trying on kasim's part, except i think the game against vallejo.
Feb-27-05  OJC: < shortsight > Agreed. Kasim may finally start getting some respect after Linares if he keeps playing like he is now. It is pretty hard to argue that he doesn't belong with the top players given his recent results. He may often play in a difficult position but seems to thrive under adversity. I like his fighting spirit.
Feb-28-05  shortsight: since his fide WC victory, kasim didn't get any bashed up or lessons from anyone higher rated, and that certainly means something. i think if he continues like this, he could very well be in the top 20 or top 10 and stays there for long period.
