Mar-03-05  Whitehat1963: Why is this over? What's the finish?
Mar-03-05  JohnBoy: This opening - up to 8.0-0-0 - is sorely underrepresented here. There are many interesting games in this line of the QGD to be found at www.chesslive.de.
Mar-03-05  JohnBoy: <Whitehat> - black is in a mating net. If, for example, 60...Kg7 then 61.Qg5+ Kf7 62.Rc7+. Of course there are other possibilities for black, but all roads here lead to Rome.
Mar-03-05  sergeidave: well... Vallejo did at least win a game in this tournament! will there be another Vallejo win on the remaining games? what do you guys think?
Mar-04-05  VishyFan: very very unlikely, unless his opponent goes for the kill and falters, which might likely happen in his games with topalov and adams
Mar-04-05  goldthread: Vallejo is very strong, the problem is that in Linares he dances with wolves. I agree with <VishyFan>, someone will decide that he needs the full point against him and who knows.

tpstar: <Dances with Wolves> But now that their homeboy finally won, he's On Golden Pons.
Mar-04-05  Shams: <tpstar> indeed. now he asks himself, how green was my vallejo?
Mar-04-05  riqhi: Congrats for Vallejo for scoring his 1st point. I was thinking that perhaps this was due that Kasim also wanted to win his 1st game, so instead of defending himself, he also attacked. Just a supposition.
Mar-05-05  morphynoman2: 52. b5!!
Mar-07-05  Giearth: 52.b5 Nd4+. If 53.Kb4 Rc2 54.Ra8 Rxg2 55.Rc8 Rb2+ 56.Kc5 Rb5+ 57.Kxd4 g2! I think the text moves are better.

plang: The variation with 9..d4!? is interesting but dubious as Black never seems to have quite enough compensation for the pawn. In the draw Goldin-Pigusov 1996 Russian Championship at Elista White played 11 e3; 11 Qe4 was new. 23..f4! would have given Black some counterplay though White would still have had some advantage after 24 R1d4..b6 25 c6..fxe 26 Kd1. Vallejo Pons thought that 26..g4 would have been an improvement. 29..Ne5? 30 Rxc7..Rxc7 31 Bd5..Re7 32 Bxe6! would have been very strong for White. 32 e4! would have been even stronger than White's continuation which was plenty strong enough.
