plang: The French-like formation that resulted after 9..d5 has the advantage from Black's perspective that the light-squared bishops have been exchanged. One caveat is whether the knight on e4 is a strength or a vulnerability. 15..Nf7 had been played against Rublevsky in a 2004 rapids game; 15..b6 was new. 20..Nb4 would have been better; after 20..Na5?! the knight never got into the game Perhaps 29..Bg7 would have been more solid. 35..Kh8 36 Bxh6..Nxe5 37 Qe3..would also have been strong for White. After 36 Ne8! White was winning.

Black's play seemed reasonable enough but he just never got enough counterplay and was slowly squeezed.
