Question: without looking it up or whatever, how many of Santa's reindeer can you name?

I can name Blitzin', Donner, Dancer, Prancer, Dasher and Rudolph.

I see I'm missing Vixen, Comet and Cupid. Blixem can be spelt Blitzin or Blixen, Dunder can be spelt Donder or Donner. Rudolph was not part of the Original Eight, but is the most famous.

Dec-22-15  JohnBoy: This game would be better w whites 32 as a puzzle.

profK: I once lost a provincial trivia championship after I rattled off: Dasher, Dancer,Prancer and Vixen , Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen....The panel had Donder written down and would not accept Donner !!!! I suggested they had a Dutch listing and Donner was perfectly acceptable. My team lost 1st prize by a point and I still hold a grudge: Bah Reindeers.
Dec-22-15  Apoline48: 31 Qh6 seems better
Dec-22-15  goodevans: Donner was no mug so I'm surprised by his <20...Bxg2>. Opening up the g-file looks suicidal. But if you are going to play it then surely <21...Rxd1+> is the logical follow up.

I know this was a rapid game but Donner's play seems well below what you'd expect.

NM JRousselle: Nice double rook sac to finish the game.
Dec-22-15  thegoodanarchist: Black lost because he castled first. In the weirdo French Defense, castling is almost always wrong, and the first person to castle should be duly punished.

nope..

31.Qh6 Qxf6 32.Qxh7+ Kf8 33.Rxd5 exd5 34.Qh8+ Ke7 35.Qxa8 Qf1+ 36.Kd2 Qxh3 37.Qxa7+ Qd7

White's 31.Qg5 holds the f pawn and keeps the mating net intact.

Dec-22-15  kevin86: White will mate, soonest!

Good advice, except when it isn't.

Domdaniel: < seven children - the most of any pope!> The most they've admitted, anyhow.
Dec-22-15  dfcx: After black plays

32...Rxh7

There is a mate in 4 with a second rook sacrifice,

33.Rh4+ Kg8 34.Rh8+! Kxh8 35.Qh6+ Kg8 36.Qg7#
