Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-03-05  Jaymthetactician: Quite a game! 9.Nbd2,0-0 10.Re1,Na5 11.Bd3,a6 12.Nf1,Ba7 13.Ng3 how does both players play so subtly back then! They are supposed to have no knowledge of anticipation, weak diagonals, defense, and prophylaxis! How do they know that!
Jun-03-05  TheSlid: <Quite a game> What game would that be?
Jun-04-05  Jaymthetactician: True that they played badly compared to our time, it's just incredible to me that Saduleto (or any 16th century player) can concieve of subtle strategic maneuvering, I would play as black 6...exd4,cxd4 7.Bb6, but I am not familiar with the open games as black, but feel it is an o.k continuation. 7.h3 is a prophylactic move (preventing Bg4) How do they know prophylaxis back then?!?!? 7...h6 prevents the queen chase with Bg5. In MCO DeFirmian say's "the unromantic fact is that defense was horrible and little understood in the 19th century and before" 8.Be3 is an overprotection move, I wonder where the losing blunder in this game was though, just so incredible that back then they could concieve of strategy like that!
Dec-30-05  Karpova: nothing is known about the result of this game?
Jan-02-07  Autoreparaturwerkbau: Who won here? Or was it a draw...
Sep-19-07  wolfmaster: One of the few games in the database where no result is known... And, Karpov and Kasparov would agree to a draw in the position after White's 13th move.
Jul-30-09  WhiteRook48: or so fischer says
Feb-04-13  Llawdogg: Maybe this is just some very early opening theory.
Apr-11-17  Yigor: There are 3 similar previous games: #10 Polerio-Lorenzo, #11 Saduleto-Polerio and #12 Busnardo-NN where white played 7. Bg5 instead of 7. h3. Both moves are good.
Apr-11-17  Yigor: After 6...Bb6 it becomes Closed Giuoco Piano: Center Holding variation.
May-04-20  phenstyle: White is slightly better because of how the bishops and knights are lined up like that..(I think I read this is Karpov like style lol) and black's knight on a5 is temporarily misplaced, maybe black is going to try c5 but d5 and b4 could potentially trap it. it needs to be careful. White has all the pieces in a very stable place right now. The position is still pretty equal overall though. Although to Stockfish 11 this is +1.4 for white
