Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-08-06  Albertan: According to GM Suetin the Exchange Variation of the Grunfeld is considered to be the "acid" test of the Defense.
Aug-08-06  Albertan: Sutovsky plays the interesting 8...Nd7!? instead of the usual 8...Nc6.Supposedly the move ...Nd7 leads to more complicated play than ...Nc6.
Aug-08-06  Albertan: White could not play 14.Qxb7 due to 14...Qb5!and if 14.Rfb1 Qxb7 15.Rxb7 Bc6 16.Rc7 Bxe4 17.Be3 cxd4 18.cxd4 Nxd4 e6=
Aug-08-06  Albertan: The move 24...Qa6! is nice as it ties down Huzman's queen to the defense of the a-pawn and also prevents Qa3
Aug-08-06  Albertan: Huzman could have played the move 26.Qb4 which would have made Sutovsky protect his attacked pawn via 26...Kf7. Then after 27.Qb3 Qe2 28.d6+ Ke8 (not 28...e6? due to 29.Qa4) 29.Qd5 the game probably would have ended in a draw.
Aug-09-06  Albertan: If Sutovsky had played 33...Qxf3 then after 34.d6 exd6 35.exd6 Qf5+ 36.Kb3 Qe6 a draw is likely.
Aug-09-06  Albertan: The move 35.Qc3? is a mistake which costs Huzman the game. Instead he could have played 35.Qa5 and play might have continued: 35...b4!? 36.Qa6+ Kg7 37.Qxa7 Qc3=
Aug-09-06  Albertan: The move 39...a6! is very nice. If Huzman took the pawn: 40.Kxa6 then after 40...g4 41.fxg4 e4 42.gxh5 Ke6 Black wins.
Aug-09-06  Albertan: Huzman resigned on move 41 because if 41.gxh4 Kd4 42.Ka5 Ke3 43.Kxa6 Kxf3 is winning for Sutovsky.
