Jun-19-24  goodevans: 40...Rcd7 put White into quite a bind. The threat of 41...Nxf3 42.gxf3 Rd1# wins material whatever White does. White's unpleasant choice was deciding just what to give up.

As for the pun... I give up.

Jun-19-24  goodevans: And yeah, I know Rogoff (whose popularity here on cg I've never understood) was an economist but surely there's more to it than that.

offramp: The great <Bdellovibrio> left us about 8 years ago. She left one great legacy: today's Pun of the Day. You can read the hilarious discussion about this pun at Kenneth Rogoff.
Jun-19-24  goodevans: Hi, <offramp>. Would you be so good as to direct us to where in the <2000+ pages> that discussion is to be found. Thanks.

fredthebear: The mostly bald Rogoff received an unsolicited haircut a few years back and much of the hilarity was lost.

Don't let it be of much concern. Bigfoot is often confused with Sasquatch (similar hairstyles), Yeti never complains. Hair loss is treatable with Rogaine. It even works on eyebrows, nose and chest hair, angel hair pasta, and most shady golf greens, but you should check with your local veterinarian first.

offramp: It starts on page 729, but you could use Google and search "chessgames Bdellovibrio rogoff".
Jun-19-24  FM David H. Levin: <fredthebear: [...snip...] but you should check with your local veterinarian first.>

I thought you were going to say, "agronomist." 8^)
