Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-09-05  Montreal1666: a very strong game by Kempinski.
Aug-10-05  rexeterna: That has to hurt for Bacrot.
Oct-02-05  Idedalus: I think white should have been able to hold the position with his setup after move 31. At least the entry at b3 is shut and black would have to try something else. Black was clearly better though as white doesn't seem to have any good chances for activity.
Oct-02-05  DutchDunce: It's not too often that I see a KID where Black's 4th move is something other than ...d6. It would seem you could easily punish this by 5. e5, forcing ...Ne8, and CM9 agrees with me. Yet there's only 7 games on CG.com's database with that continuation, and the results are heavily in Black's favor. I wonder why??
Oct-02-05  euripides: <Dutch> 5 e5 has a slightly dodgy reputation ever since

Letelier vs Fischer, 1960

It can go better than that but it should be OK for Black.

I think Kempinski sometimes plays a line with 4 e4 0-0 5 Nf3 c6 and if 6 Be2 then 6...d5. That line requires 4 0-0 rather than d6. I imagine Bacrot's 5 Be2 may be designed to avoid this and send him back to the regular KID. If 5 Be2 c6 maybe 6 f3.

Andrew Martin suggests 5 Bg5 may pose Black some problems after 4...0-0.
