Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-01-16  mjk: In his book, Alekhine gives Black resigning at move 59. Perhaps Alekhine truncated the game because White blunders into a draw at move 66, but Black counter-blunders and ends up in a lost position and resigns.
Aug-14-21  tbontb: 11.Ng6 is pretty but engines prefer the more mundane o-o with a big advantage to White. In the ending, after 34....f3 Black is clearly lost so the last real chance is 34....e5 35.Bxd7 Kxd7 36.Rxe5 with (surprisingly) only a small plus for White.

OhioChessFan: <tbon> I played that out. Black's King has to keep the White Rook off the d file. One interesting line of many ended up here, Black to move:

Obviously Rh1+ followed by d1Q+/h5+/d1+ 1/2

OhioChessFan: One important nuance of that sort of endgame is knowing what to do if White runs the h Pawn. Here's an example position:

You must check on the first rank to get the White King on the h file. That's a crucial tempo, so that after Rc5 then Rh5, Rh5 is with check, which is a saving move in some of the lines I tried.
