Oct-28-14  ljfyffe: The nature of correspondence chess being what it is, Adam could well have been involved with it right up to the time of his death.
Oct-28-14  Granny O Doul: Someone might have had a good chew with the gum that was spent on those stamps.
Nov-13-14  ljfyffe: The World CC Championship no.1 ended in 1953, and Adam played in that.
Jul-16-15  ljfyffe: But UK player Stephen MacDonald-Ross would be only 13 in 1958! Something seems amiss.
Jul-17-15  ljfyffe: Looks like 1968 is correct date and E. Adam, an American.
Nov-28-23  Alan McGowan: There is no source shown for this game. Is it made-up?

Can anyone provide details of American cc players called Macdonald and E. Adam?

MissScarlett: If one searches on surrounding games in the DB (as indicated by gid #s), it will be seen that there appears to have been an original small file/collection of MacDonald games uploaded in the dim and distant past. E.g.:

R C MacDonald vs P H M Acosta, 1969

J K MacDonald vs J A Diani, 1971

J S MacDonald vs A Cartier, 1943

When these were assigned their current player identities is anybody's guess.

Nov-28-23  stone free or die: Don't know how much this is worth, but since <ljfyffe> was a published Canadian chess historian, his posts aren't just random.

perfidious: <ljfyffe: The nature of correspondence chess being what it is, Adam could well have been involved with it right up to the time of his death.>

In the late 1990s, Vyron Bellas died on me, and two other opponents then passed on soon after our games finsihed.

Nov-29-23  stone free or die: <perf> this line of discussion makes me wonder if there's mention of any chess players who got buried with a chess set and board, er, on board?

Pocket sets applicable, of course.

Nov-29-23  Alan McGowan: This all started by thinking that I might be able to clear up any ambiguities in regards to Scottish names. It was natural to see what CG had on Ronald Cadell MacDonald

I noticed that the last three games in the list were there in error (the Dr died 1942). I sent a correction suggestion.

Then I noticed the 1924 reference to RC Griffith-Dr RC Macdonald, which, to me, looked a little like analysis.

I have looked at all BCCA references in the 1924 BCM. Dr Macdonald played in the Trophies Tournament, Class 1a, but Griffith was not in the group.

Still looking.

Nov-29-23  stone free or die: <<Alan> Still looking.> Much respect for all your efforts fwiw.
Dec-02-23  stone free or die: A technique I learned from <missy>, when trying to suss out a misidentified player, is to look at games in the DB before and after.

In this case we have a series of three R.C. MacDonald games bracketed on either side by this player:

J Ken MacDonald

[Alan McGowan has pointed out R.C. died long before this game was played]
